Earnest Work

Written by: Giles

I’ve returned to the dark of the cavern with nothing but the gentle lapping of the waters in the lake to keep me company. I’ve had nothing but time on my hands. Time to begin work on the things I’ve told myself to work on, and yet no work comes. I’m avoiding it desperately. Why? When Luminesce is all I can think about, why do I have such a difficult time?

Perhaps I’m intimidated. Perhaps frightened of what I will accidentally create.

Those One Words, the books I wrote with a single word in them still sit unopened on my desk. I didn’t have the courage to jump blindly into a dangerous world of my own creation before the Third Age, and I don’t have the blissful ignorance to jump blindly after the Third Age.

This cannot stop me as it once did. I will find a way. I must find a way.

Let me take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all of you. When I was in a dark time, you were all there to support me, even though I did not realise it. You wish me well, even though you do not know me. I’ve never known such a thing.

Thank you all. In return, I will write an Age.

Wow ! Thank You ! That’s really gracious of you Tolly (new Age)….I don’t think you can go wrong as far as we are concerned, no matter how it turns out…Go for it ! Things will weave together once started, I suspect.

If there is any risk involved you have an eager band of volunteers willing to go first….IF Will’s software has been validated/verified and we have the hardware….

Such a generous gift for something we gave freely, willingly. We may not know you personally, but we are all bound together by two simple yet deep ties: We were all explorers of D’ni, and we still feel the Call.

Tolly: You may feel overburdened by “Rule 1″, (Avoid Mistakes). This Rule set applies when the path from A-Z is clearly seen, and makes for least-risk, self-preservation.
However, there is one school of thought that says that Mistakes are necessary; and in the creative process, when the path from A-Z is Not clearly seen, the optimum path is to make all the mistakes up front rather than later. This is because a mistake is more quickly recognised, and more easily corrected earlier than later, and at least cost.
I quote an anonymous 8 yr-old…”We’re supposed to make mistakes…That’s why we have erasers !”

Perhaps the Rules should be qualified…..

Giles, if there comes a time where you need assistance, whether in the Cavern or not, you can trust in the fact that I’ll be there.

In the meantime, perhaps a trip to Gahreesen is warranted.

Giles:

You have lots of bretheren who feel The Call not just the few of us who reply. I’m certain we’d offer any assistance you might need but for now know that you have friends out here and we eagerly await your future endeavors.
