Now that I’ve had some time to fully process the events, I understand what happened. I understand exactly how I squandered one of the most precious resources I’ve ever had the serendipity to come across. I’m going to be very upset with myself for a great while.
I mixed up the inks.
I bloody well copied “island” hundreds of times from the codex in Writing Ink! The bottles were very similar, yes but I should have labeled them!
I made such an absolutely revolting, hideous mistake. Such a completely avoidable mistake. I wasted Writing Ink in a copybook, which I then tore to shreds in frustration. The worst part of it? It’s all gone. Whatever tiny amount of ink that remained has long since dried, as I left the well un-capped in my disgust and hurry to return to the surface.
There is a light in this tunnel though. I know of another district, Jaren. The Jaren district wasn’t as affluent, nor was it affiliated with the Guilds, but I haven’t yet explored it. True, I haven’t examined every inch of J’Taeri, but I feel that it has little left to offer. It may be my last chance to find Writing Ink, and more blank Descriptive Books. My chances are less than with J’Taeri, but I cannot give up now.
Jaren is not close to any particular City link-in spot. I will set out as soon as I am able on foot.
It’s lucky that I left my Relto book in the Cavern, hidden. I did not want the constant reminder of my failure on the surface, but now, it is once again my lifeline.
I practically ran all the way back here. I had packed up most of my possesions and the furnishings in my quarters, but it was all still here. Of course it was, who is here to steal it?
I’m absolutely furious with myself for making such an ignorant, amateur mistake. A mistake I never would have caught on my own. Only Will, looking into the situation from the outside, posed the question.
I’m furious, but yet elated to have the possibility of a second chance. A second chance to grow the tree.
The Cavern seems to have a knack for bringing people back from the brink of destruction.
